To support this vision, we are now seeking to recruit a Deputy Dean for the School of Arts and Humanities.
The School of Arts and Humanities delivers inspiring and supportive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; provides doctoral supervision; collaborates and engages with local, national and international partners, industries, professions and communities; and undertakes high quality research. Academics in the School work in partnership with colleagues nationally, as well as in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. This has the benefit of creating a varied and dynamic community that enhances research and the student experience more generally. The School hosts a range of innovative Research Centres and Projects, offering opportunities for collaborative work in many areas.
The Deputy Dean role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the leadership of the School of Arts and Humanities by leading and developing the student academic experience, providing leadership and mentorship to colleagues and developing the School’s profile both at home and overseas. Reporting to the Executive Dean, the successful candidate will be an experienced leader with a passion for innovative pedagogy, excellent student experience, and for driving quality.
In order to fulfil this responsibility, the successful candidate will:
- have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to engage across the broad portfolio of the School
- display a good knowledge of the arts and humanities
- demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the different higher education pedagogical models and theories
- have a doctoral level qualification or relevant professional qualification
- be a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (or be ready to achieve this within 12 months of appointment)
- have exceptional leadership and management credentials and a proven track record, in a senior role, of leading change in higher education and of enhancing the academic and pastoral student experience, and student employability.
