Are you an academic or industry leader looking for an innovative and successful university in which to take your next step? At NTU, we recognise that our greatest strengths lie in the energy, expertise, and experience that our colleagues bring.  We are building our future through empowering and creating opportunity for all our students and staff so they can learn, discover and enrich society locally, nationally and internationally. Our success is demonstrated by many accolades, including a TEF Gold Award, The Guardian University of the Year for 2019, The Times and The Sunday Times Modern University of the Year in 2018 and the THE University of the Year for 2017, not to mention a top-20 position in The Guardian League Table for the past two years. Additionally, thanks to our £421million investment in estates and equipment across our three campuses since 2003/4, we deliver an inspirational learning environment for both staff and students.

We seek a qualified civil engineer with vision, focus and leadership skills to lead the Department of Civil Engineering in the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment to further develop our suite of excellent and well respected industry facing degrees, as well as to contribute more broadly to the leadership of the School.  A commitment to academic excellence in teaching, practice and research, to innovative delivery of courses and a track record of collaboration and engagement with industry partners is essential.

All our civil engineering courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level are accredited on behalf of the Engineering Council by the Joint Board of Moderators representing the following professional bodies – ICE, IStructE, CIHT and IHE with the undergraduate courses also being accredited by the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveying.

As Head of the Department of Civil Engineering you will provide leadership to a committed group of academics. You will be committed to working with industry and the professional bodies to ensure our students remain highly employable throughout their careers. Working closely with the Executive Dean, Deputy Dean and School Associate Dean for Research, you will also contribute to the strategic leadership of the School, particularly in relation to the School’s international and research agendas.
