The School of Social Sciences, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) – an introduction

NTU’s School of Social Science is many things to many people. We’re one of the UK’s preeminent teaching and learning environments; a conduit for unique opportunities in both academia and business; a nationally and internationally recognised research centre; a hub for the strategic partnerships that are shaping civic, cultural and social life; and a true beacon for the community.

As an aspiring university of the future, we understand and embrace our key obligations – to create new opportunities and manage the deployment of skills and knowledge for the betterment of communities, society and professional practice. The School of Social Science is key in realising those commitments, and these posts are part of that ambition to provide genuinely life-changing opportunities.  The School of Social Sciences is making a significant contribution to NTU’s provision in Mansfield as part of our partnership with West Nottinghamshire College. Working in conjunction with the college, local authorities and employers NTU is developing a higher education offer based at the Mansfield site. This contributes to the University’s ambition to help transform education provision, skills development and innovation within the County of Nottinghamshire, and extend its presence within Mansfield and Ashfield.

Our plans for the future

These are exciting times for the School.  The Institute of Health and Allied Professions is developing a range of new provision for healthcare professionals across the sector including nursing and paramedics. We have excellent partnerships with practice providers to help us develop high quality education and research, to enable us to deliver meaningful change to our community and further fulfil the University’s strategic commitment to enriching society.  We are developing new health courses at the Mansfield site to offer a local route into Higher Education for people seeking to join the health professions and contribute to the community.

At NTU, we recognise that our greatest strengths lie in the energy, expertise, and experience that our colleagues bring.  We are therefore seeking to appoint a Principal Lecturer to join our growing interprofessional healthcare team. You will contribute to team leadership for healthcare academics at the Mansfield site and co-ordinate development of new educational provision for the Institute in the region. You’ll also work in conjunction with our partners to offer an excellent student experience.
