Associate Professor in Statistical Applied Mathematics or Data Science

The Department of Physics and Mathematics within NTU's School of Science and Technology invites applications for an Associate Professor in Statistical Applied Mathematics or Data Science.

NTU has a thriving academic community, and it’s one where you’ll feel truly valued. We know our academics are central to our success as an award-winning university and research centre of excellence.

We are seeking an exceptional individual who will provide research leadership and engage in internationally excellent or internationally leading research which is clearly linked to - and significantly enhances - the activities of the Mathematics Team. In particular, this position represents a strategic appointment to enhance our research and teaching capability in either stochastic or data driven modelling. The successful candidate will have an excellent research profile, as evidenced by high-quality publications and grant capture, with preference being given to activity that complements our existing research interests in applied mathematics or data science.

Our existing multi-disciplinary research strengths concern mathematical applications in the biomedical and life sciences, engineering, computing and industry, and include: computational neuroscience and network science; computational statistics and statistical learning theory; deep learning and biomedical image analysis; industrial mathematics and numerical analysis; mathematical modelling and analysis of PDEs; and quantum information science (see https://www.ntu.ac.uk/research/subject-areas/mathematical-sciences for more details).

The successful candidate will also contribute to postgraduate course development and must have excellent communication and presentation skills, being capable of teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students across our portfolio of Mathematics courses. For this post your teaching interests should align with one or more of the broad topic areas that contribute to our existing BSc / MMath Mathematics, BSc Financial Mathematics or BSc Data Science courses.

Nottingham Trent University is renowned for leading edge research, strong links with industry and its excellent teaching that shapes lives and society. Recent years have been full of success, including our receipt of the prestigious University of the Year award by the Times Higher Education Supplement in 2017. Along the way, we’ve achieved the TEF gold standard for the quality of our teaching and are also extremely proud to have been named Modern University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and Guardian University of the Year 2019.

Research in the School of Science and Technology is extremely strong in terms of high-quality outputs, funding income, and international impact. A key strength of the School is its collegial, multi-disciplinary approach with mathematicians, statisticians, scientists and engineers collaborating extensively. Our teaching aims to be exciting, innovative and relevant and is highly regarded, with Mathematics performing consistently well in the National Student Survey.
