Technical Services Analyst (Linux Operations)

Salary £37,458 - £42,135 per annum - Grade H

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Linux Systems Administrator with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in Red Hat Enterprise or similar to join our Technical Services team within Digital Technologies. As a Linux Systems Administrator, you will play a critical role in managing, maintaining, and optimizing both physical and virtualized Linux-based infrastructures. Your expertise will ensure the stability, security, and performance of our systems, contributing directly to the success of our university.

Your primary role will be to assist in the operation and management of our corporate systems infrastructure which will include management of systems involved in Identity Management (IDM), Finance, web servers, HR systems, SQL Cluster and Azure based infrastructure. Experience of supporting databases on Linux, in particular Oracle and MySQL/MariaDB is desirable.

You will have recent, good demonstrable skills in this area of technology, along with scripting skills in Bash or similar such as Bourne, Korn or Zsh. A good eye for detail and problem-solving skills, a strong work ethic, a creative outlook and will be prepared to contribute to team discussions and solutions. 

You will have good communication and interpersonal skills, with familiarity of different hardware platforms and operating systems. You will be a self‐motivated individual, able to work using your own initiative and as part of the wider team, with the ability to plan, organise and prioritise work, being able to work to deadlines. Additionally, you will be expected to provide third line support to local teams and Service Desk.

There is an expectation you will work a minimum of 1 day each week in our Nottingham, UK office, this is not a remote only role.
