Research Scientist in Nutrition (KTP Associate)
£36,000 to £40,000 per annum
Fixed Term role for 36 months. Main place of work will be Geary's Bakeries (LE3 8JR)
Please note a PhD in microbiology, nutritional sciences, or other relevant field is an essential requirement.
About the Role
We wish to recruit an insightful and adaptable individual who holds a PhD in microbiology, nutritional sciences, or other relevant field who can translate theoretical knowledge into practice by supporting long-term innovation in sourdough baking via microbiological profiling and human intervention studies.
The project is technology related, and requires a diverse skill set to embed a scientific R&D capability within Geary's Bakeries. The successful candidate will need to become proficient in a wide range of skills. Specifically, proficiency in complex techniques such as DNA sequencing will be essential, but they must also become proficient in collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data.

Geary's Bakeries is a fourth-generation, family-owned business established in 1906, proudly rooted in Leicestershire. Today, producing over 3.1 million loaves per week across three state-of-the-art sites, employing approximately 1,000 people. Our flagship product line - Jason's Sourdough is now the UK's 3rd largest bread brand. We specialise in the manufacture and wholesale supply of affordable, high-quality artisan breads, with a focus on long fermentation techniques and cleaner ingredient declarations.
About the Project
This position forms part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded jointly by Innovate UK and Geary’s Bakeries Ltd. As a KTP Associate you will work within Geary’s to develop and embed knowledge, with research and academic support from NTU. KTPs offer the ideal opportunity to apply your degree through real work and springboard your career.
