Legal Assistant

£23,904 per annum

Full Time/ Fixed Term for 12 months- commencing 1st September 2025

This role is only open to Nottingham Law School students or graduates

Please note this is a full time post and core working hours are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a Nottingham Law School student or graduate to work as a Legal Assistant in NLS Legal, on a fixed term contract for 12 months, commencing in September 2025.

The key responsibilities for this role will include:

  • To support and assist NLS Legal staff with the firm's activity, as required.

  • To support and assist the supervising lawyers working within NLS Legal in service delivery in social justice law (welfare benefits and housing).

  • To support and assist the administration of NLS Legal by undertaking administrative tasks as required, and as are appropriate to the post.

The role will primarily support our social justice (housing and welfare benefits) service areas. The successful candidate will spend 12 months working directly with qualified and experienced lawyers in the firm and, under supervision, provide support to NLS Legal clients including, with appropriate training, the opportunity to represent clients before the Tribunal. The post holder will also provide pivotal support to the administrative team, assisting with new enquiries, student recruitment, marketing and general administrative tasks related to the running of a regulated law firm.

NLS Legal undertakes work in a variety of areas including business law, civil litigation, intellectual property, employment, welfare rights, housing, special education needs and disability, family and criminal law. Candidates should be prepared to work in primarily in social justice (welfare benefits and housing).
