Disability Officer – Autism/ADHD Support Services

£32,397 - £37,280 p.a. pro rata

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint an ADHD/Autism Disability Officer to support students with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Conditions and/or ADHD, to complement our existing neurodiversity provision across all sites.

The Disability Officer will support students on a 1-1 basis and provide casework support services to students within their Academic Schools.

The post holder will also contribute to the development of University strategies to promote understanding and awareness of Neurodivergences across the university.

The successful candidate will hold a degree or equivalent as well as comprehensive training in Adult Autism to comply with the Department for Education mandatory qualification and professional body membership requirements to deliver Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) fundable Non-Medical Help (NMH), this would be for the role of Specialist Mentor – Autism Spectrum Conditions (SM-ASC), which can be found here: https://www.practitioners.slc.co.uk/media/1987/final-nmh-qualifications-matrix-july2023.pdf

The successful candidate will have a strong awareness of how to utilise assistive technology and communicate effective study strategies to ensure a positive learning experience.

The role holder will be required to:

  • Discuss and identify support strategies with students
  • Discuss reasonable adjustments with students and support recommendations
  • Provide guidance for course staff on appropriate teaching and assessment strategies
  • Advise students of available funding sources
  • Provide 1:1 specialist support to students with a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Condition and/or ADHD

The successful candidate will be committed to continuous service development to ensure gold standard service delivery, and have the confidence to communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
